Once you do, you'll start enjoying the impact you have on a family as you see them thrive because of your support. How do I know I can trust MFC with my time and money? We're certified through Candid for transparency. You can look up our profile here and see what we do. Our tax information is public knowledge too. You can read our most recent 990 here on the IRS webpage. Don't foster parents have children who have massive behavior problems? Simply, children who are being cared for by foster parents are just that, children. Yes, some have higher behavior issues than others, just like children who haven't experienced foster care. We train and equip you to know how to handle these minority of cases. The majority of the time, you're spending time with parents and kids just like your friends and their kids.Won't I have to volunteer every day to make a difference in a parent's life? Absolutely not. MFC has seen one hour per month make a real difference in a parent's life. Over time, you'll build a relationship with the family you're caring for and may want to spend more time. If you don't, that's ok too. One hour per month is twelve hours each year. That's half a day of help a parent didn't have before you joined their Care Team. Will I have to travel a long way to help a foster family? We ask what you're willing to drive and then stick within that general area. If you want to help in your small town, we'll make sure that's where you help. If you're willing to drive one county over, we'll keep that in mind as we receive families from both counties. We even serve both Indiana and Michigan so if you're close to the border, state of residence isn't an issue.I'm only comfortable with kids of __ age. Will I need to serve kids who are younger or older than that? Definitely not. MFC asks for your input on what you are comfortable with. Then we make sure you have a family to serve within that range. No need to worry about handling something outside your age of preference.
